I can remember my first watch when I was a kid. I was in third grade and I saw this cool watch with the luminescent hands and indices, a slick black rubber strap and a red rotating bezel. I can remember always spinning the bezel and getting in trouble because it made that ratcheting noise. Back then those were the cool watches, but nowadays kids have so many more options and in this article we'll take a look at the popular kid's watches.
Sports Watches
All kids love to be active and you need a watch that is going to be able to take the beating. Modern kid's sports watches are actually quite cheap as most of them run off of the Timex Ironman modules. These watches include features such as a stopwatch, multiple alarms, the day and date display, and a choice between 12 and 24 hour time. These cheap kids watches are quite powerful in what they can do and when matched with the shock resistant quartz movements, the durable hard resin casings and the mineral watch windows that are virtually scratch-proof, you've got a great option. Not to mention that these watches are usually water resistant to very deep levels (watches aren't waterproof; they are water resistant) often achieving 100+ feet making them great for playing in the pool or keeping on in the shower.
Watches for Young Kids
I was probably 8 or 9 when I got my watch, but by that point I had learnt to tell time. But if you have a child that is younger and wants to be like mommy or daddy and wear a watch, there are watches that are designed to help a child learn how to tell time. These watches are childish in that they incorporate designs for young kids such as cars and trucks, tractors or flowery patterns. Each one labels the hour and minute hand so that it's easy to distinguish the two and helps them learn when to use past (as in 22 minutes past an hour) or to. These watches work great for children around the age of 5 or 6.
Toy Watches
Then there are the toy watches that are great for getting a child's imagination going. There are the military styled camouflage watches that are great for boys (or girls) who want to pretend that they are in the army. There are the spy watches that have walkie talkies built in and let them communicate with their fellow spies up in the tree house. Or the fun Lego watches that look just like the Lego pieces that your child plays with everyday.
